Setelah beberapa waktu lalu kami pernah memposting tentang processor AMD Phenom� II untuk komputasi kelas premium, kali ini giliran processor yang ditujukan untuk kelas menengah yaitu AMD Athlon� II. Didesain berdasar arsitektur K10 seperti halnya AMD Phenom� II, namun pada AMD Athlon� II tidak terdapat L3 Chace. AMD Athlon� II diproduksi melalui teknologi proses lithographic mutakhir 45 nm SOI (Silicon-On-Insulator) dengan menempatkan lebih banyak Transistor. Processor AMD Athlon� II hadir dalam tiga type, yaitu : AMD Athlon� II X4 Quad-Core, AMD Athlon� II X3 Triple-Core dan AMD Athlon� II X2 Dual-Core.
Processor AMD Athlon� II dikemas dalam sebuah die berukuran 117 mm� dan 169 mm�, socket AM3 (938 pin). Support memory DDR2-1066 MHz / DDR3-1066 MHz untuk seri Athlon� II X2 Dual-Core, sedangkan untuk AMD Athlon� II X4 Quad-Core dan X3 Triple-Core mendukung hingga DDR2 1333 MHz / DDR3 1333 MHz. Selain itu processor AMD Athlon� II juga mendukung teknologi HyperTransport� sampai 4.0 GHz Full Duplex (2.0 GHz x 2).
