ASUS meluncurkan mainboard Maximus IV Extreme-Z berbasis Chipset Intel Z68 Express untuk mendapatkan pengalaman overclocking terbaik. ASUS Maximux IV Extreme-Z mendukung processor Intel Core 2nd Generation kode Sandy Bridge socket LGA 1155 dan support memory dual channel DDR3 hingga kapasitas 32 GB yang bisa diaplikasikan pada 4 slot DIMM. Disamping itu ASUS Maximux IV Extreme-Z menyediakan dukungan untuk PCI Express 2.0 x16 yang siap melayani konfigurasi AMD CrossFireX dan NVIDIA SLI.

Hadirnya platform Intel pada ASUS Maximux IV Extreme-Z turut membawa juga teknologi Turbo Boost 2.0 dan Hyper Threading. Tak terkecuali Intel� Smart Response yang memungkinkan akses lebih cepat dan kapasitas penyimpanan data yang besar. Hal ini dapat diwujudkan melalui aplikasi cache SSD minimal 18.6 GB. ASUS Maximux IV Extreme-Z dilengkapi dengan dukungan multi GPU melalui Lucid Virtu, yaitu sebuah software virtualisasi GPU untuk mengaktifkan fitur Quick Sync. Selain itu dengan adanya dukungan LucidLogix Virtu memungkinkan untuk melakukan switching secara otomatis antara penggunaan GPU onboard dengan GPU diskrit sesuai kebutuhan aplikasi yang sedang dijalankan.
